Restoring Dion to it's former glory
The Leyland OPD2 double decker fully restored at the Sydney Bus Museum
Hand painted bus route reinstated to the exterior panels
As part of the restoration of Leyland OPD2 double-decker 6057, the Sydney Bus Museum commissioned Steady Studio to restore the bus’s original bus route signage traditionally painted by hand. Using archival reference material and evidence uncovered during the restoration, the original lettering was carefully redrawn and hand painted to accurately replicate the signage when the bus entered service in 1948. This meticulous approach ensured the finished signage remained true to the period and complemented the whole conservation of this rare and significant bus.

The bus operated its entire working life on the route between Wollongong and Austinmer, serving the Illawarra region under the ownership of the Dion Brothers of Fairy Meadow. The bus became a familiar sight along this coastal corridor, carrying generations of passengers between the city and the northern suburbs.
