The Royal Oak Hotel in Lidcombe, Sydney, is a beloved local pub known for its rich history and classic charm. When it came time to refresh the signage on the doors, the owners wanted more than a standard digital print or vinyl sticker—they wanted the depth, character, and authenticity that only a traditional sign writer could bring.

I was commissioned to hand paint and gild the new signage, taking inspiration from the original sandblasted designs while adding my own touches with different karats of gold leaf and subtle colour highlights. I also created a bottleshop sign in two applications of gold leaf to complement the Art Deco styling of the pub, ensuring the new signs felt true to the hotel’s heritage while bringing a touch of modern craftsmanship.
