For the Captain Cook Hotel in Sydney, Steady Studio was commissioned to paint a courtyard mural reproducing a historic beer advertisement painted to look as if it has been weathering on the walls for many years.

The mural draws on the rich history of breweries, when hand painted signage was a key part of advertising beer and well before mass printing and vinyl ever existed. Using a variation of traditional signwriting techniques Lance created a convincing result layering sings on top of each other, capturing the  faded character and texture typical of a mural of this age. The mural pays homage to both the pub’s history and the craft of traditional hand painted advertising that once defined the beer industry.
